Maket AI alternative: Maket vs Plan Chat, tested with the same brief
Maket and Plan Chat both draw a real, measured floor plan instead of a picture of one. We ran the same brief through both in October 2026 and recorded every step. Maket is better if you want to drag walls and furnish rooms yourself; Plan Chat is faster to a dimensioned drawing and exports IFC and GLB as well as DXF.

Short answer: who should pick which
Pick Maket if you want a guided questionnaire, a free starter balance and a canvas where you move rooms and draw walls by hand. Pick Plan Chat if you want the plan from one message in about a minute, dimension strings and room sizes on the drawing, a plan check, and PDF, DXF, IFC and 3D files from the $19 Starter plan.

Brief: “3 bedroom, 2 bath, single-story house, about 1,800 sq ft, open kitchen and living, 2-car garage”. Screenshots are our own captures, cropped, not retouched.

Maket vs Plan Chat, side by side
| Maket | Plan Chat (ours) | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Vector plan (walls, doors, windows, furniture) in an editor. On the 2D canvas we got, rooms carried no names or sizes; floor area and exterior size are in the side panel | Measured plan: rooms, walls, doors and windows as geometry, drawn with dimension strings, room names, sizes and areas |
| Input | Chat-driven checklist: floors → area → footprint shape editor (8 shapes, front door and garage placement) → room counts → confirm summary. 300 characters per message | Written brief (up to 4,000 characters), a sketch or photo of a plan, or one of 29 measured house plans to start from |
| Wait for the first plan | About 2 minutes of questions, then about 2–3 minutes of generation ("This typically takes me a few minutes") | 63–81 s for a new design in our October 2026 production runs; 51–95 s for a change by chat; 156 s from a hand sketch |
| Dimensions add up? | Side panel: floor area 1,850 sq ft, exterior 43'6" × 43'6". The 1,800 sq ft brief was read as the total including the 2-car garage. No dimension strings on the canvas view | Yes. Dimension strings, room sizes and areas are read from the geometry; on our test plan the right-hand chain 18'-1" + 19'-8" + 5'-3" + 10'-6" = 53'-6", exactly the overall depth |
| Checks the plan | No plan report shown. The summary before generating marked "open kitchen" and "2-car garage" as best-effort items | Plan check on every version: overlaps, every room reachable, door swings, windows, areas add up. It shows failures (a template plan reads 4/5: "No window: Great Room") |
| Editing after generation | Canvas: move rooms, draw walls, add furniture, finishes; chat can "create a variation of this plan" | By chat ("add a home office near the entry"): the rest of the house stays, each version lists what changed, undo and restore cost nothing. No drag-and-drop wall editing |
| Layout options | One plan per run; ask the chat for a variation | 3 layouts per new design (current + 2 alternatives); switching between them uses no credits |
| 3D | 2D/3D toggle in the editor; photorealistic renders | Bare 3D model of every version; photoreal renders about 120 credits per view |
| Exports | PDF or DXF (Homeowner plan and up); share link; renders | PDF plan set, DXF (AutoCAD, layered), IFC (Revit, Archicad), GLB, CSV room schedule, PNG |
| Sketch / plan upload | "Upload a plan" locked on Free; AI-assisted on Homeowner, human-validated on Pro | Sketch or photo to measured plan that keeps your layout (tested: rooms moved at most 67 cm) |
| Price (October 2026) | Free: 30 credits (one plan = 20 credits). Homeowner $20/month, 300 credits. Pro $100/month, 3,000 credits (public pricing page) | $19/month or $190/year, subscribed on floorplan.ai-architectures.com; no free tier |
| Sign-up and free use | Email + verification link; 30 free credits | Sign in at your first message; nothing is generated before you pay |

Where Maket is better
- A free starter balance (30 credits, enough for one plan) to try it before paying.
- Hands-on canvas editing: move rooms, draw walls, place furniture, set finishes. Plan Chat edits by chat only.
- Pro includes human-validated plan uploads.
Where Plan Chat is better
- One message to a plan: 63–81 s in our runs, against roughly 4–5 minutes of questions and generation.
- Dimension strings, room names, sizes and areas on the drawing, read from the geometry.
- A plan check on every version that tells you what fails instead of hiding it.
- IFC (Revit, Archicad), GLB and a CSV room schedule next to PDF and DXF.
- Changes by chat keep the rest of the house and list exactly what changed; 3 layouts per new design.
More from the test
In Plan Chat you change a plan by chat. Below, on our example ranch: “Add a home office near the entry, about 10 × 11 ft” took 51 s and 100 credits; the office was added and the list under the message shows 13 rooms unchanged.

How we tested
One person, one connection, the same brief typed into each product in October 2026: “3 bedroom, 2 bath, single-story house, about 1,800 sq ft, open kitchen and living, 2-car garage”. Where a product asks structured questions instead (house tab, room counters, shape editor), we entered the same numbers. We recorded every screen, the time from pressing generate to the finished plan, what the output is (image or geometry), and whether its dimensions add up. Prices are copied from each public pricing page on the test date.
Measured plans are only half the job: none of these tools, ours included, makes a permit set. Use the output as a concept to take to a designer, builder or architect.
Try the same brief in Plan Chat
This is the brief every tool got in our test. Change it to your house and Plan Chat drafts a measured plan with dimension strings, a plan check, and PDF, DXF and IFC files.
Starter $19/month (5,000 credits) or $190/year when you subscribe on this site (floorplan.ai-architectures.com/pricing). A new design usually uses 300–1,500 credits, a change by chat 100–400, the full file package 100. No free tier, no trial. Same account and credits on this site and in Plan Chat. Pricing
Maket vs Plan Chat: questions
Is there a free Maket AI alternative here?
No. Plan Chat has no free tier or trial; plans start at $19/month when you subscribe on this site (same account and credits as Plan Chat). Maket gives 30 free credits, enough for one plan, which is the better way to try a measured-plan tool at no cost.
Does Maket export DXF?
Yes, PDF and DXF on the Homeowner plan ($20/month) and up; in our free-plan test the download was locked. Plan Chat exports PDF, layered DXF, IFC, GLB and CSV from the Starter plan.
Which one is faster?
In our October 2026 test with the same brief, Plan Chat returned a plan 63–81 s after one message. Maket asked about floors, area, shape and rooms first (about 2 minutes), then took about 2–3 minutes to generate.
Can I edit the plan by hand?
In Maket, yes: the canvas lets you move rooms and draw walls. Plan Chat changes the plan by chat ("make bedroom 2 12 x 11 ft") and keeps every other room as it was; it has no manual wall tool.
Are these plans ready for a building permit?
No. Both produce concept plans. A designer, architect or builder has to turn them into permit drawings for your local code.
