Drafted AI alternative: Drafted vs Plan Chat, what each one does
Drafted is the closest thing to Plan Chat on the market: both draft editable house plans as geometry and export PDF, DXF and IFC. Drafted generates five layouts per run and now works inside Revit. This page compares what Drafted publishes on its own site (October 2026) with what we measured in Plan Chat. We have not completed a test run on Drafted yet; we will add one with screenshots.

- A plan check on every version that reports failures openly.
- Prices on the page: $19/month, $190/year billed yearly; IFC, GLB and CSV included in the file package.
How we tested
One person, one connection, the same brief typed into each product in October 2026: “3 bedroom, 2 bath, single-story house, about 1,800 sq ft, open kitchen and living, 2-car garage”. Where a product asks structured questions instead (house tab, room counters, shape editor), we entered the same numbers. We recorded every screen, the time from pressing generate to the finished plan, what the output is (image or geometry), and whether its dimensions add up. Prices are copied from each public pricing page on the test date.
Drafted is the exception on this page: we have not run the brief on it yet. Its column comes from its public home page and FAQ on 2026-10-08; where we could not check something, the table says “not measured by us yet”.
Measured plans are only half the job: none of these tools, ours included, makes a permit set. Use the output as a concept to take to a designer, builder or architect.

How much does Drafted cost?
Drafted says it is free to start, with paid plans for more generations, renders and exports. It had no public price list on 2026-10-08 (its /pricing page returned 404). Plan Chat costs $19/month when you subscribe on this site (same account and credits as Plan Chat) ($190/year billed annually), with no free tier.
Does Drafted export DXF and IFC?
Yes, according to its site: PDF, AutoCAD DXF and IFC, plus a Revit add-in. Plan Chat exports PDF, layered DXF, IFC, GLB and a CSV room schedule.
What is the main difference?
Input and editing. Drafted starts from room counts and a shape you draw and gives five layouts. Plan Chat starts from a written brief or a sketch, gives three layouts, and changes the plan by chat while keeping the rest of the house.

Are the plans permit-ready?
No. Drafted says it generates design concepts, not permit-ready construction documents; the same is true for Plan Chat.
